Beyond the Bombing
Yesterday I woke to an eerie silence punctuated by the occasional bird or police siren. This morning I am greeted by the sounds of rain hitting the roof and birds singing in the eaves.
Yesterday I spent the day inside, sheltering in place, glued to the TV news and social media, staying out of the way and avoiding a potential shower of bullets (was it 200 rounds of ammunitions?) Today I might stay inside, choosing to stay dry and avoid the rain showers as they wash the scene of the terrible events of this past week.
Yesterday I woke up still tired from lack of sleep. Unrested due to the uncertainty and fear. Apprehensive about how and what we were going to tell our children. This morning I wake up feeling safe and secure.
Today I woke up feeling grateful. Feeling proud. Feeling cared for and protected. I want to thank all of the men and women who worked so hard and risked so much to apprehend the two suspects. It is your work I want to remember from this ordeal. Your efforts I wish to highlight for my children.
Today I woke up.
